The Upanishads ("Sittings Near [a Teacher]") are part of the shruti; these religious
scriptures primarily discuss philosophy and "cosmic reality"; they also contain
transcripts of various debates or discussions. They are commentaries on the Vedas and
their branch of Hinduism is called Vedanta .
